SAN DIEGO, CA – A 17-year-old student at a North Park continuation high school was arrested Monday after he was caught with a loaded handgun on campus, authorities reported.

Officials at ALBA Community Day School were searching the 11th-grader for unrelated reasons in an office when they found the revolver about 9:15 a.m., said Jennifer Rodriguez, a spokeswoman for San Diego Unified School District.

The student, who apparently had not issued any threats or brandished the pistol on the Oregon Street campus, was arrested by school police and booked into juvenile hall, Rodriguez said. His name was withheld because he is a minor.

The ALBA program is designed to help students who have been expelled from mainstream high schools get their education back on track.
