LOS ANGELES, CA — A 10-year-old girl suffered a medical emergency and died Thursday on a Delta flight bound for Seattle after it took off from Los Angeles International Airport.
The plane returned to the gate shortly before 6 p.m., and Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics worked aggressively to try to save her. However, she was pronounced dead at the scene, according to fire department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart and Los Angeles Airport Police. According to fire department officials, the young girl died of an apparent cardiac arrest.
“LAFD paramedics responded to medical aid for a minor female child and furiously worked to save her life,” Stewart said. “Sadly, all efforts were futile, and the child was beyond medical help. Her death was determined on the scene. “
There were no immediate indications of anything suspicious in connection with the death, according to ABC7. The Los Angeles Police Department will conduct a death investigation. The cause of death will be determined by the coroner’s office, Stewart said.
The girl’s age and name were not released. ABC7 reported she appeared to be around 10 years old.
