WINTHROP, MA — A Winthrop man faces charges after his two passengers were killed when he drunkenly drove a convertible into an unoccupied pickup truck Sunday afternoon, police said.

The crash happened around 3 p.m. on Winthrop Drive. The road was closed at Neptune Ave. for four hours.

John Fannin, 30, of Winthrop is charged with two counts of motor vehicle homicide and operating under the influence of liquor for the second time. He is being arraigned at East Boston District Court Monday morning.

Kathryn Adelstein, 28, of Winthrop, and Madeline Lund, 29, of Beverly died in the crash. Fannin suffered non-life threatening injuries.
